If anyone missed it last night, I've launched a BBS (yes, an old-school BBS, text interface, you access it via telnet) to act as a chill social hangout for #trans folk.
Since it just went live, it's very small, but if we can grow it into a cozy little community, I think it could be pretty great.
If you're interested in the details, contact me directly.
Boosts are also appreciated!
@papertape As with a lot of retro tech, it never completely disappeared, but I feel like there's been a bit of a resurgence of it just recently. :) It's nice because it means a lot of the old source code has been updated and recompiled in the last couple of years!
@PastaThief i'm not trans, and i fully respect that this is a safe place for trans folk, and i think that's wonderful!
i'm actually curious if the BBS is available to look at the source? some day i wanna write my own BBS aha
used a web app a couple of years (or more ago)
That was just a stream of anonymous posts.
It was actually very gentle and one dipped into the stream and engaged and shared with it as one felt fit.
@kat :) I mean, it's fair to critique telnet on lots of grounds for sure. It's kind of the standard use protocol in people who still run BBSes. I'm looking at getting ssh happening as well, but there are some bugs with that to work out still.
